About Sherris

Meeeeeee!

Hi, I’m Sherris —a graphic designer, creative thinker, and proud Winnipegger! I believe design should be more than just pretty—it should tell a story, spark a feeling, and, most importantly, make an impact. My work is a fusion of bold typography, expressive illustrations, and a sprinkle of photography and writing. (Because why stop at just one creative outlet?). I love using Winnipeg’s energy, history, and creativity to inspire me daily, and I aim to reflect that same spirit in everything I design. Whether it’s a brand identity, a visual campaign, or an experimental side project, I’m always chasing the perfect mix of artistry and purpose. Let’s make something awesome together!

Schooling

Born and raised in the land of maple syrup and moose (aka Canada), I’ve always loved the country’s bilingual culture. Thanks to a full French immersion education, I can switch between English and French faster than you can say croissant. My creative journey led me to Red River Polytechnic’s Graphic Design program, where I mastered the art of making pixels look pretty and ideas come to life. Armed with the Adobe Creative Suite, Procreate, and even the necessary evil that is Microsoft Office, I create designs that pop, sizzle, and sometimes even dance (metaphorically… or not).

Dark Water Designs

Sure, my first name is already one-of-a-kind, but Douglas? That name carries some serious legend. Straight out of Scottish folklore, the Douglas clan was known for their bold (and slightly mischievous) tactics—like poisoning a well to defend their fort, earning the name Dou-glas or dark water. Hardcore, right? My dad was all about celebrating our heritage,he even carried that legacy into his art, illustrating and signing his work as Dark Water. That influence runs deep and I use the name to honour him now that he's gone.

Hobbies

Now for the fun stuff! Sure, I love drawing and painting, but let’s be real—everyone expects that from a designer. My real creative chaos? Cross-stitching, knitting, crochet, and embroidery. Basically, if it involves a needle and thread, I’m in. I’ve even dabbled in beadwork, sewing, and quilting, often with my very patient pets as unwilling models for my more experimental projects. When I’m not turning string into art, I’m belting it out with NuoVoce, an incredible chamber choir where I hold it down in the alto section. And just to keep things interesting, I moonlight as a lifeguard and swim instructor at the YMCA, making sure people stay afloat in more ways than one. Creativity, music, and water safety—it’s a weird mix, but hey, it works!
